Negatives: Cooking time a little slow Small- few seats Awkward Food Container |
This is one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in awhile ! Focaccia Grill is a small hallway shaped restaurant with about 8 seats at a bar facing the long side wall. You choose the bread and meat and they cook it on the grill for you while you wait. It felt a little slow but when it came, the wheat Focaccia bread with the Lemon Herb Chicken was scrumptious ! They gave me some lettuce on the side so I may not have really needed a side salad but a few drops of their salad dressing made me think otherwise. I ate all of the lettuce.
These guys have “taste” down… and it is all good… And the price for the sandwich was only $5.95. If I weren’t on my mission to bring you more great places, I would be returning here quite frequently. I got there at 1pm and it wasn’t so busy but I heard that it gets busy about 11:45ish on weekday mornings. There is a Focaccia Market next door where you can get food to go in bigger volume…whole chickens, pre-made salads, pre sliced fruit… These are two places that are good to know about…Oh yeah…the container ( I ordered for here and got the same as the to go) container was awkward to eat a sandwich from because of those four corners sticking out. If it bothers you, you may have to unfold the box or tear off some flaps like I did…
On another note…I had first gone to Birley’s sandwiches in embarcadero 4 and I had to walk out because every sandwich that I wanted was pre-mixed in some sort of mayo. So there was nothing I could order because I like to at least minimize the saturated fat intake wherever I can… If that is not a concern for you, then you might try Birley’s and let us know how you like it… I have heard that the Birley’s Curry Chicken Sandwich is the bomb… I just won’t be blasting off with it….. Yeah, I know..they tell me I’m picky…but I prefer to think of it as “Selective”.
SF-Lunch went back to Foccacia Grill today as we sometimes do to validate our previous experience. Last time I was rushed and din’t have time for hte video but we got the photos that you see here. This time, the owner respectfully asked us not to take any photos because he doesn’t want anyone to copy his restaurant design. Even though I could probably sit there and draw a decent rendition of the place having tutored Descriptive Geometry way back when, I like to respect the owners wishes… This is one of those places that I do hope can repeat itself though. Even though the owner is somewhere between curt and persnickety, the good service in there and cleanliness of the place makes me feel like his motives are in the right place. So as much as I like to provide our readers with some viewing time… This is one place that I can tell you to try without a doubt. A short story about today’s lunch… My brother calls and checks to see if I am available for lunch, I hadn’t decided where I would sf-lunch it so I met him and we both wanted to show th other a place…it was the same place…Focaccia Grill… enough said..here is the short of it… After that you will see some thoughts about the only thing I don’t like there, the cumbersome box they put the food in…looks good but not functional..
Disfrutas ! Enjoy !
