Lunch Spots for SF Professionals

Lalita Exotic Thai Restaurant and Bar is deceivingly large when looking at the small looking corner door entrance in front. Upon entering you see a large bar area with at least 3 large flat screen televisions. This seems like a great place to go after work to catch a ball game, some chow and drink. I found their service to be extremely polite. Everyone I encountered was polite, quick to serve and flexible. It had a good feel from the beginning. The menu had kind of an Italian flare, like some places that let you order the sauce and the type of pasta to go with it.

Lalita has a selection of 10 Thai sauces and then…. meat, crispy tofu, prawns or roasted duck selections to go with it. I wanted to add cashews and spiciness and got a quick ok. So the service was good. The food came and it looked a little different than some of the Thai food I am used to. The sauce was a darker brown, but it tasted like “graprow” that I am used to. There was some fresh herbs that looked like little branches. And they added spicy heat for me… Most places won’t add much because they are afraid Americans will send it back.. I usually want 10 on the Thai spicy scale and rarely get it until the wait persons get to know me. I usually tell them, I won’t send it back.. I’ve even had chefs come out to see how I was doing with the level of heat..I always tell them it is perfect, never too hot. This was not a 10 but it was pleasantly hot.
I could at least taste it in there which I can’t say for a lot of other Thai places around Civic Center.

I liked the experience here at Lalita. I had to take Thai out of my diet for awhile so today was a splurge day for me… Thai is something I can eat every day… so I have to be careful…. I can’t believe I walked by this place so many times and I didn’t even give it a blink. I guess you could call Lolita a sexy Thai food restaurant..it might be near the sleazy area, but they are not guilty by association. Good Service, Good Food….definitely worth a try. They will do it your way with a smile….don’t forget to smile back.

PS- Their on-line menu says free delivery for on-line orders… I don’t know their constraints but if you work or live nearby, this might be an option for you !
